Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the newly constructed head office of BAPEX on 29 October 2013 at Kawran Bazar, Dhaka. A 13-storied BAPEX Bhaban has been constructed under a self finance project with an estimated cost of Tk. 70.80 crore. Power connection, electrical sub-station, gas generators, solar power system and elevetors have been commissioned in the building. During the fiscal year 2012-2013, which has been discovered by BAPEX. Currently, 45 mmcfd and 10 mmcfd gas is being produced respectively from these fields.
It is good news that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid trice visits on the different occasions to the activities organised by BAPEX. It ushers in recognition to its successful accomplishment of responsibilities in ensuring energy security of the country. The visits of the Prime Minister highly inspired, encouraged and motivated all the employees of BAPEX to a great extent towards keeping up their success trend.
BAPEX emerged as an oil/gas exploration company under Petrobangla in July 1989 as per Govt. decision to expedite petroleum exploration activities within the country. Subsequently, in February 2000, BAPEX was transformed into an exploration-cum-productiofl company with a view to making it more dynamic and self-reliant.
Currently, in addition to its main exploration activities in the awarded ring-fenced areas, BAPEX has been producing and supplying about 115-120 mmcfd gas to the national grid from its six gas fields namely Saldanadi, Fenchuganj, Shahbazpur, Semutang, Shahaj adpur-Sundalpur and Srikail.
Construction of BAPEX Bhaban
The only self financed project, construction of BAPEX Bhaban project was approved the energy and mineral resources division on 9 September 2008 with the objective of constructing the head office building for BAPEX at plot-4 of Kawran bazar C/A, Dhaka. Innitially, the project cost for construction of a 13- storied building having 20- storey worth foundation was Tk.56.60 crore.
As per the revised DPP the project cost has been increased to TK. 70.80 crore and the project implementation period has been extended to December 2013. The total accumulated cost of the project since inception to June 2013 is about TK. 49.23 crore.
Four elevators of 1000Kg capacity have been installed . An electrical sub-station of 1250KVA, two gas generators of 325KVA, a solar power system of 20KW and electrical connection with bas-bar trunking system and power saving lights have been installed in the building with a view to ensuring uninterrupted supply of electricity.
Automatic smoke and heat detector, fire hose, fire extinguishers have been installed as precautionary measure against accidental fire break-out. Provision for fire-exit and sprinkler system has also been setup. Moreover, around-the -clock central monitoring system for accidental fire break-out and modern public addressing system have also been installed. A central water treatment plant of 5000 litre capacity has been installed with a view to ensuring purified drinking water.
At present, BAPEX has a total manpower of 867 with 406 officers and 461 staff. With a view to developing professional skills among the officers, assessing their training needs and providing them with necessary training both at home and abroad is being done regularly and these activities are set to persist on a routine basis.
With the financing from the Japan Debt Cancellation Fund and in the various Procurement Contract a total of 87 officers were imparted foreign training in ONGC of India and AlT of Thailand and others.
Moreover, a total of 93 officers took part in local training in BPl, Planning and Development Academy, BIM, BUET and Engineering Staff College under various pograms.
From its emergence, BAPEX, the sole state owned oil and gas exploration and production company of the country has been successfully accomplishing geological, geophysical, drilling and gas production activities.
