Rajshahi College: The Department of Zoology

Among twenty two departments of Rajshahi College, the Department of Zoology comes into the focus for its outstanding performance in teaching-learning in animal science and extra-curricular activities. The department started its journey in 1957 with a few number of students, but the number of students increased significantly over the years. At present there are about 1000 students studying in different sessions and a total number of fourteen efficient and dignified teachers are relentlessly guiding the students. The department provides five courses for HSC, B.Sc (Pass), B.Sc (Hons), M.Sc (Previous) and M.Sc (Final) level. In M.Sc (Final) course the department offers two branches for specialized study: Fisheries and Entomology

Within the college campus, the Department of Zoology is located in Second Science Building on the ground floor having five hygienic class rooms which are spacious, well ventilated and equipped with multimedia facilities. It has a well maintained Zoological Museum with a large number of species of different phyla, bones, slides etc. The seminar is enriched with a good number of books, articles, newspapers and journals. Apart from a well furnished staff room, there is a separate chamber for the head of the department.

The teaching learning methodology of this department is very unique. The department arran-ges study tours, workshop, seminar and field level researches every year as part of the curricular activities of the students. Besides, the students participate in different extra curricular activities such as BNCC, Rover scouting, sports, cultural functions, debating, producing wall magazines etc. The performance of students is excellent in the results of different examinations and extra curricular activities. Both the students and teachers of this department are always trying their best for the well being of the department, and the country as well. A healthy academic environment with a good teacher student relationship is prevailing here.
