Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL) was registered as a public limited company from the Registered of Joint Stock Companies & Firms on 31 December 1994 to alleviate severe power crisis of the country. The company was promoted by BREB and Five Palli Biddyut Samities (PBSs).

Our Vision

To be a role-model power generation company in the region and to enhance socio-economic development in rural areas of the Bangladesh through reliable power generation. The Company is presently generating 287 MW of Electricity from its three power Stations. Present share holders of the company are BREB & twelve PBSs. RPCL has over the years gained experience in project implementation and operation & maintenance of power plants. This has given the company an edge over others in becoming the leading Bangladeshi company with three operating plants of its own.

Existing power station

1.         Mymensingh 210 MW Combined Cycle Power Station.

RPCL has been generating 210 MW of electricity to the National Grid from Mymensingh Power Station (MPS). In Phase-I of MPS, the company installed 70 MW Gas Turbine (GT) Generator which was commissioned on November 1999 and in Phase-II another 70 MW Gas Turbine (GT) Generator was set up which achieved commercial operation on December 2000. In Phase-III, RPCL installed a 70 MW Stream Turbine Generator (STG) which was commissioned on july 2007. Presently Mymensingh Power Station is a Combined Cycle Power Plant with a capacity to produce & supply 210 MW of electricity.

2.         RPCL-Gazipur 52 MW Dual-Fual Power Plant

To expand the company’s operational capacity and business, RPCL constructed 52 MW Dual-Fuel (HFO/Gas) Power Plant at Kadda, Gazipur. The construction work of the power plant was started on 24 August 2010 and commissioned on 12 July 2012. A power Purchase Agreement was signed with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) on 27 June 2012.

3.         Raozan 25 MW Dual-Fuel Power Plant

To eliminate power shortage of the country, government has taken short term, mid term and long term initiative, As a part of this initiative, RPCL has constructed a 25 mW Dual-Fuel (HFO/Gas) power plant at Noapara, Raozan, Chittagong. An EPC contract was signed on 23 March 2011 and achieved commercial operation on 9th May 2013.

Electricity is prime need for the growth of the economy of Bangladesh like any other country in the world. According to Bangladesh Power Sector Master Plan, the electricity demand would be 24,000 MW by 2021 and 40,000 MW by 2030. In line with the Government’s Master Plan RPCL also undertake strategy to enhance its generation capacity. In order to escalate its generation capacity to 2730 MW by 2030, the development process is undergoing.

Government has set up on extensive target for inhancement of Power Generator for RPCL within 2030. The target is

1.         Gazipur 450 MW CCPP at Kadda, Gazipur -LNG/Gas-450 MW

2.         Mymensingh 360 MW CCPP at Shambhuganj, Mymensingh -LNG/Gas      -360 MW

3.         1320 MW Coal Base Thermal Power Plant at -Coal -1320 MW

Barishal/Barguna/Patuakhali

4.         300 MW Coal Base Thermal Power Plant at Gozaria -Coal-300 MW

5.         100 MW Solar Power Project -100 MW

6.         200 MW Wind Power Project -Wind -200 MW

RPCL also planned to develop a 5 MW Solar Power Project at Mymensingh which will be implemented through self financing.
